Louisiana Mobile Sports Betting Outperforming Expectations

Last updated: October 06, 2023

It was a busy weekend in the Bayou, with Louisiana mobile sports betting outperforming expectations during the 36-hour launch window. The State smashed expectations with the number of unique players placing bets on mobile equal to 3.6 percent of Louisiana’s adult population, as reported by GeoComply.

In comparison, the recent New York mobile sportsbook launch on January 8-9 saw unique bettors equal to 3.3 percent of the New York adult population.

What Makes Louisiana’s Launch Impressive

The population of Louisiana is just over a quarter of the population of New York. So, while the revenue figures may not be as huge, the adoption rate is considerable and suggests the potential for growth that might see it still rival those larger States.

From 8 am CT on Friday until the end of the NFL’s conference championship games, geolocation technology provider (GeoComply) registered 3.4 million geolocation transactions within the State.

It might not have been a record-breaking weekend, but it was impressive – Louisiana finishing eighth in transaction volumes across the weekend, beating Connecticut, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee.

Who Operates Mobile Sports Betting in Louisiana?

Five mobile sportsbooks are operating in Louisiana – Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel, and BetRivers. It is expected that three more operators will be launching soon. These include Betfred, WynnBet, and TwinSpires.

Of all the mobile sports betting operators, Caesars is considered the market leader in the state. The casino brand has continued to spread its brand recognition across Louisiana, acquiring the naming rights for the Superdome (home of the NFL’s New Orleans Saints), picking up the Manning family as ambassadors, and inking a multi-year deal with LSU athletics.
