Following on from its revenue-busting streak of 2022, Atlantic City looks set to have an even more revenue-tastic time with its city-wide job fair, happening on June 2nd.
The Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) and Division of Gaming Environment (DGE) are on a recruitment drive, with representatives from the city’s 9 casinos looking to shore up some new talent.
Taking place at the Atlantic City Convention Center on Thursday, they’ll be paying particular close attention to potential “table games dealers, food and beverage servers, security officers, hotel housekeeping, culinary jobs and much more.”
The event is free, open to all, and potential employees will be able to apply, interview and be hired on the spot.
The job fair comes hot on the heels of “labor disputes” involving the city’s largest union casino workers.
Unite Here Local 54’s workers are set to have their workers’ contractors expire on 31 May, with workers looking to negotiate wage increases.
Unite Here claims employees’ pay hasn’t increased as casino profits have, releasing a statement “Our members are prepared to do whatever it takes to win the raises they need to get by in this economy.”
Commentators suspect the contract deadline, negotiations and the Atlantic City job fair may all be intrinsically linked. This follows Atlantic City’s ‘recovery’ mode post-pandemic, and the city is looking to attract new visitors for the upcoming summer season. Recent figures suggest Atlantic City is well on its way to economic recovery.
