Kansas legislators have moved one step closer to finally bringing legal sports betting to the state.
The state has been pretty pro-sports betting, ever since the ratification process had begun: in fact, the current legislation had been ratified by Kansas senate state only 24 hours after it had been backed by the House of Representatives. That’s pretty impressive!
From here, the proposal will continue on its way to the desk of Kansas’ governor, Laura Kelley, where she will ratify it into law.
The process itself might take some time to complete from here, but it still promises to be fairly quick: commentators are always speculating that Kansas could be seeing legal sports betting as soon as January 2023! That alone could allow the state to add an extra $10 million to its coffers in additional sportsbetting tax revenue.
Kansas has a lot of plans when it comes to how the new sportsbetting legislation could provide a positive impact.
Not only would the new laws allow the state’s hundreds of tribal casinos to legally offer sportsbetting, alongside a rather nice 10% tax rate, but it would also allow greater things to happen.
Currently, the NFL is based just 9 miles outside of Kansas, in neighboring Missouri. Kansas State Senator, Rob Olson, hopes that the new legislation will tempt the NFL to move to Kansas, and already had his eye on either the Kansas Speedway, or the 18,00-seater Children’s Mercy Park stadium.
