Though online sports betting is legal in over twenty states, only roughly 13 per cent of people have access to iGaming. Only six states, including Pennsylvania, allow legal online casinos featuring interactive slot machines and table games. The remaining states are New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Connecticut, and Michigan.
Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey are the top three iGaming states.
Online casinos in New Jersey took over $1.66 billion last year from players outside the state. With gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $1.57 billion as of October 2023—a 15% increase over the previous year—the online casino sites have only expanded their operations.
In 2022, there were $1.58 billion worth of online casinos operating in Michigan, comprising commercial and tribal operators. iGaming won $1.41 billion as of October 2023.
Online casinos in Pennsylvania made roughly $1.36 billion in revenue from customers in 2022. After ten months, the GGR from online gaming exceeded the previous year’s. Pennsylvania’s iGaming GGR was close to $1.45 billion from January to October.
In Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Playtech has a partnership with betPARX. The Parx Casino’s online sportsbook and casino app is available for download. Parx Casino is located in Bensalem, North Philadelphia. Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc. is the owner and operator of Parx.
In addition to its primary casino resort, Greenwood launched Parx Casino Shippensburg, a small casino, in Cumberland County in February.
In the Commonwealth, Parx leads the market in revenue from land-based gaming. With $30.3 million on the slots and $17 million at the tables, Parx’s leading casino made $47.3 million in total in October. That was more than the second-place Wind Creek Bethlehem.
In Pennsylvania, the only casinos that don’t allow smoking are Parx Casino and Parx Casino Shippensburg.
The largest retailer in Pennsylvania is Parx Casino. However, its online operations account for a small portion of the state market.
BetPARX made $4.6 million in online iGaming revenue in October. Penn Entertainment’s online casino operations led the industry with an operating gross revenue (GGR) of over $62.1 million.
Even though it’s currently switching from Barstool to ESPN Bet, Penn’s online casino already has live dealer table games. BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetRivers provide live dealer games in Pennsylvania.
