The Virginia Lottery has released a report on casino gaming activity at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia. In October, gaming revenue totalled $51.9 million, a 4.4% decrease from September. Table games brought in $12.3 million, while slots brought in $37.2 million.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth earned $20 million in revenue, with $14.3 million coming from its 1,461 slot machines and $5.7 million coming from its 81 table games. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Temporary Bristol earned $12.7 million, with $897 slots accounting for $10.3 million and 29 table games accounting for $2.3 million.
The temporary casino in Danville operated by Caesars Entertainment generated more than $16.8 million in adjusted gross gaming revenue from its 822 slot machines and 33 table games. The three casinos collectively paid $9.3 million in taxes to the Gaming Proceeds Fund.
The casino license for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Temporary Bristol was approved by the Virginia Lottery Board in April 2022, and the temporary facility on the site of the former Bristol Mall opened to the public three months later. Rivers Casino Portsmouth received its casino license in November 2022, and the casino opened on January 23, 2023.
The casino license for Caesars Virginia was approved in April 2023. Danville’s temporary facility will open on May 15, 2023. Residents of Richmond, Virginia, voted last week to reject a proposed casino resort for the second time. A $562 million resort casino on Interstate 95 in South Richmond was proposed by developers.
Caesars Virginia is currently under construction, with the groundbreaking taking place in August. It will cost $650 million and will include a 500-room hotel as well as a casino gaming floor with over 1,300 slots, 85 live table games, 24 electronic table games, a WSOP poker room, and a Caesars Sportsbook. A spa, pool area, and fitness centre will also be available. Meeting and convention space will be 40,000 square feet, with an entertainment venue seating up to 2,500 people.
The permanent Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol will open in the summer of 2024. It will feature a 3,200-seat performance venue as well as a 20,000-person outdoor entertainment venue. The casino will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is expected to create 1,200 to 1,500 jobs. It will also have two hotel towers, a pool, and other amenities.
